SHATTERED

A new play by Lisa Nicoll | Directed by Jordan Blackwood | Scottish Tour 2018
In Motion Theatre Company in association with Paisley Arts Centre

About

After months of watching from her window and seeing her husband move in and out of her world, a woman’s encounter with a stranger begins her reconnection to life.

A play about grief and moving on from loss.

Concept

Working with writer Lisa Nicoll over a period of three months, we underwent two development stages before rehearsing the final production.

Stylistically, I was keen to create a non-literal landscape in reflection of the changing locations and strong imagery within the play. Exploring moments where characters were present in mind therefore physically present elsewhere on stage was key. Collaborating with designers Fraser Lappin, Laura Hawkins and Alan Orr, we created an atmospheric production of abstract, minimalist nature.

★★★★ ...a memorably cool and stylish production by director Jordan Blackwood and designer Fraser Lappin...
— Joyce McMillan, The Scotsman
Jordan Blackwood’s elliptical production takes this simmering everyday crisis and... creates a slow-burning meditation on grieving, healing and the surprising comfort of strangers.
— Neil Cooper, The Herald
